The EHDEN project, which launched in November 2018, wrapped-up its initial phase at a two-day event IN BARCELONA
The overarching theme of Day 1 was “celebration” in which a large group of the EHDEN Community consisting of Consortium Members, SMEs, and Data Partners came together to look back at EHDEN’s many accomplishments. A public Symposium, which was held on Day 2, covered the full spectrum of EHDEN’s journey, its impact on the generation of real-world evidence, and charted its future as the EHDEN Foundation.

SYNAPSE is a proud member of EHDEN, having been involved from its definition and being a key partner in several pillars of the Project. Carlos Díaz has been co-leading Work Packages 6 on Sustainability and 7 on Project Management. During the event, he presented the EHDEN Foundation, which has as a mission to operationalise a new paradigm for Discovery and analysis of health data created by EHDEN, providing continuity to the large-scale federated network of Data Partners. Montse Camprubí has been the Community Manager in EHDEN, being the central point of contact and nexus for all members. This role proved to be pivotal from the commencement of onboarding of successful applicants during the completion of their mapping to OMOP CDM and in the involvement in research studies thereafter.

Key achievements of EHDEN are summarised below:

  • Certifying 64 SMEs from 22 countries to help Data Partners map their data to the OMOP CDM.
  • Establishing a federated network of 187 DataPartners from 29 countries across Europe.

The mission of the European Health Data & Evidence Network (EHDEN) is to provide a new paradigm for the discovery and analysis of health data in Europe, by building a large-scale, federated network of data sources standardised to a common data model. EHDEN will build on prior projects, such as EMIF and EHR4CR, in scaling their original intents and technologies.
